Causes of the War
- Athens and the newly formed Delian League began to compete against Sparta and its interests
- Because of this competition, Sparta formed the Peloponnesian League
- Competition for control of the Greek world helped lead to the Peloponnesian War
Effects of the War
- When the Peloponnesian War was over, Athens, Sparta, and many other Greek city-states were in a weakened state
- This would set the stage for the Macedonian conquests of Greece and the end of Athenian democracy.
